− | Chill is a beautiful extra early, ruffled near-white | + | Chill is a beautiful extra early, ruffled near-white with green veins and a sunfast green throat. It opens with [[Stella De Oro]], plus or minus a week. There's nothing else that pretty at that time of year. Even better, Chill opens well after a 48 degree night. |
Only 2 branches and 8 buds in my garden this year. Normally, I wouldn't introduce a plant with such a low budcount, but Chill has fantastic breeding potential: see its kids below (three future introductions with much better branching and budcount.) Chill also may be prone to spring sickness. I haven't seen that in the kids, though. | Only 2 branches and 8 buds in my garden this year. + | Chill is a near-white whose tone can vary greatly with the temperature. At cool temperatures it is melon toned, and in warm temperatures it takes on a very light yellow tone. | ||
I don't think I've observed Chill well enough to recommend it as more than a hybridizing plant. I haven't yet had it grown outside of MA and NH: who knows what it might do in warmer or wetter climates? I think it will produce more buds than in my garden. But at diploid prices, you can take a chance, and I'll update this page as I get feedback. | I don't think I've observed Chill well enough to recommend it as more than a hybridizing plant.
